Population in Crewe and Nantwich District
- Latest Census figures for 2001 reveal a District population
of 111,007; an increase of 6% since 1991. The District covers
43,041 hectares, averaging 2.6 people per hectare.
- The District's ethnic minority population is extremely small,
with 98% of the population being white.
- Latest available forecasts indicated that Cheshire would enjoy
moderate population growth until around 2011, with the most significant
increases in population occurring in Crewe (4% to 10%) and Nantwich
(26% to 40%).

- The most populated ward is St.Barnabas with just under 7,000
inhabitants. Haslington, Waldron and Maw Green are the next
most populated wards with just over 6,000 inhabitants each.
- Peckforton, Acton, Minshull, Engelsea and Wrenbury each have
less than 2,000 residents.

- The 2001 Census reveals that women outnumber men in the District,
with 51% of the population being female.
- 21% of the total population were aged under 16, 58% between
16 and 59 and 21% were 60 or over. The average age was 39 years.
- Life expectancy has increased generally in the UK over the
past 50 years with improvements in health care and living standards.

- The increase in the population is largely due to inward
migration rather than natural change (i.e. a change in the birth or
death rate).
